For the people, by the people and of the people – the line that best describes the Indian constitution and the day that embarked upon the nation the constitution. How did we celebrate the day? Well, like every year even this year the NMTV teams were all out, everywhere in the city and bring to you how the city went tri-color as flag hoisting ceremonies ushered in Republic Day all over the country and likewise in the city. The tri-color was hoisted in Shivaji Grounds, Dadar in the state ceremony at the hands of Governor K Shankarnarayanan in the presence of Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and others. Like every year even this year the Republic Day parade was the highlight of the celebrations. Vidhan Bhavan also saw hoisting of the national flag by Maharashtra Legislative Council Chairman Shivajirao Deshmukh in the presence of Vidhan Bhavan Speaker Dilip Walse Patil, Deputy Chairman Vasant Davkhare, Opposition Leader Pandurang Phundkar and others. With the national anthem, the atmosphere was charged with patriotism. A tribute was also given to freedom fighters here. A cultural event was also held here. Republic day celebrations was also held at the HQ of the Central Railways where the flag was hoisted by the CR General Manager Kul Bhushan. A salute was given by the Railway Security Force. The Central Railways took the occasion to spread the message of reducing rail accidents by organizing a cycle rally. The day was also chosen to inaugurate the LCD TV facility in trains running on CR routes. In the MCGM HQ, the national flag was hoisted at the hands of the Mayor Shraddha Jadhav in the presence of MCGM Commissioner Subodh Kumar, senior officials and corporators. The BMSF combatants presented a parade. Amidst huge gathering of students, TMC officials, police officials and citizens, Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik graced the flag hoisting ceremony of Thane District at the Dadoji Konde Stadium. Minster Ganesh Naik pulled the string and saluted the national flag. A parade was also held during the ceremony where even the police vehicles like Rapid Invention Vehicle, Riot Control Vehicle, Thane fire brigade vehicle and others also participated in the parade. Speaking on the importance of Republic Day, Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik spoke in reference with the attack on officials in Nasik and said that being a democratic country, a wrong message was going out. Thane Municipal Commissioner R A Rajeev also spoke with NMTV News Deputy Editor Sana Warsia on the issue and appealed to citizens to allow officers to carry out their duties. Also present during the ceremony was Thane Collector AA Jarhad, Mayor Ashok Vaiti, Thane Commissioner of Police S P S Yadhav. The flag hoisting ceremony was also held at Thane Municipal Corporation at the hands of TMC Mayor Ashok Vaiti. Present on the occasion was TMC Commissioner R A Rajeev and other TMC officials. In NMSA, the flag hoisting ceremony for the Konkan Region of the state was performed at the hands of State Rural Development Minister Jayant Patil in the presence of Konkan Division’s Commissioner S S Sandhu, DIG Parminder Singh, CIDCO MD Tanaji Satre, NMMC Mayor Sagar Naik, NMMC Commissioner Bhaskar Wankhede and Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Ahmed Javed. The highlight of the celebrations was the parade and street play by school children. The achievers of the Gram Panchayat system were felicitated on the occasion. Speaking to the media, Minister Jayant Patil gave his message. The Minister also listed the challenges the nation faces today. Thane MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik held flag hoisting ceremony at RAF Naik school in KK where students gave performances in athletics. Thane MP Dr. Sanjeev Naik also released a large replica of the Indian constitution to spread the importance of the Constitution amongst the students. Students also performed a drama in an attempt to keep alive the importance of the Constitution of India. Thane MP Dr. Sanjeev Nail also went to the municipal school no 7 in KK where he felicitated the meritorious students. The special school at Rabale witnessed special Republic Day celebrations. Organized under the leadership of former Corporator of the ward Sudhakar Sonawane and corporators Ranjane Sonawane and Dr. Gautami Sonawane, every years hundreds of children gather for the unique celebrations here. This time MLA Sandeep Naik hoisted the flag at the school premises. The cleaning staff of the school was felicitated at the hands of the MLA. At CIDCO HQ in CBD Belapur, the flag hoisting was performed at the hands of CIDCO Chairman Nakul Patil in the presence of Managing Director Tanaji Satre and CIDCO officials. The highlight this year was that the cleaning sweepers that work on contract with CIDCO were a part of the celebrations. The young Mayor Sagar Naik hoisted the flag at NMMC HQ in Belapur. The flag hoisting ceremony was performed in the presence of Commissioner Bhaskar Wankhede, corporators and officials. NMMC Standing Committee Chairman Anant Sutar hoisted the flag at the Airoli ward office. Opposition leader Manoj Haldankar was also present at the venue. DCP HQ Vijay Patil performed the flag hoisting ceremony at the Navi Mumbai Police HQ early morning. DCP, ACPs and officials of the department gathered for the ceremony. Actor Amir Khan along with wife and director Kiran Rao arrived at Byculla’s Dhobi Ghaat to hold the flag hoisting ceremony. Present in huge numbers were the dhobwalas of the city. Amir Khan said that the dhobiwalas had given immense support during the making of the film Dhobi Ghat.
