Kabbadi match was arranged between Raigad and Japanese team at Karnala Sports Academy with the intention to promote the sport. Shilpa Suryawanshi reports. Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India, Maharashtra State Kabbadi Association, Raigad District Kabaddi Association, and Karnala Sports Academy at Panvel had jointly organized ‘Indo-Japan Kabbadi Series-2010’ at Karanal Sports Academy on Monday. This match between Japan and Raigad Kabbadi team was arranged with the view to promote the sports in both the countries. The Raidad districts dignitaries like Vivek Patil, President of Karnala Sports Academy; Balaram Patil, Secretary of Education and Health Committee; Gulabrao Pol, Navi Mumbai Commissioner and J. S. Gehlot, President of International Kabbadi team were present for the occasion. In first ‘Men Group’ match, regional Raigad team emerged as winner with the score 18/22, whereas among women, Japanese team emerged as winner with the score 19/16. It was a unique experience for domestic team. President of International Kabbadi team said that Kabbadi is gaining popularity among many countries and he has dream to take it to Olympics. But one thing, which really demoralized Raigad team, was that these local players didn’t even have sports shoes (whereas Japananese players were well prepared). Though many attempts are being made for the promotion of sports culture but still players are lacking even in basic facilities calls for change in the interest of the traditional sport.
