India’s Enforcement Directorate and investigation wing of the Income Tax Department have unearthed huge wealth acquired by Karti Chidambaram, son of former union finance and home minister and prominent Congress leader P Chidambaram. The investigation agencies found Karti has made investments in real estate assets and other businesses in many countries, including England, United Arab Emirates, South Africa, Philippines, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, British Virgin Island, France, USA, Switzerland, Greece and Spain, reported The Pioneer. Officials investigating the alleged acquisition of Indian telecommunication company Aircel by Malaysian company Maxis found the details of Karti’s investments following the raid conducted in his company Advantage Strategic Consulting.
Despite all proofs going against Karti Chidambaram, he has been continuously pleading not guilty and innocent of all charges. He says all this is political vendetta against the Congress and him. Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has assured action will be taken against those found guilty. Meanwhile investigation agencies are seeking help from the agencies of other 14 countries to get the details of other transactions.
