The mutton and chicken vendors in Panvel City Municipal Corporation area will soon get licences to operate legally. They will also be allotted designated areas. The civic body has said that action would be taken against those that continue to operate illegally in the open. The illegal chicken and meat shops in Panvel have mushroomed over the years. The vendors do not follow norms and operate in unhygienic conditions. There are also complaints of waste and leftovers being dumped in gutters and bins.
The erstwhile Panvel municipal council had not given permission to any chicken or meat vendor but the shops had been operating across the city. Municipal commissioner Sudhakar Shinde said, “We are taking action against those operating in the open. We do not have a problem with those who follow norms. We will give them licences to operate legally.”
Added the commissioner, “We will source information from Cidco on plots reserved by it for chicken and mutton shops. These places will then be allotted to the vendors.”
Shinde said, “We are making provision for the chicken and mutton shops near the fish market. If Cidco has reserved space for a slaughter house, we will construct a slaughter house as per the government norms.”
