While the world faces the greatest decade of the crisis in the form of the CORONAVIRUS pandemic. India is struggling and opting all possible measures to combat and contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus.
With the pandemic already wreaking havoc on the citizens the 21-day nationwide lockdown announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi with an aim to contain the spread of COVID-19 and practice strict social distancing.
In an unprecedented move the government ordered shutting down all government and private establishments, apart from those involved in essential services, and all modes of transport, during the duration of the lockdown.
The lockdown garnered sharp criticism as it stung the economic and human toll and mounted severe problems leaving India’s poor hungry and igniting mass migrant movement which brought to picture the lack of adequate planning ahead of the decision.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a nation-wide radio address on Mann Ki Baat he apologized for imposing a three-week national lockdown, reiterating that though it is harsh but is “needed to win” the battle against the coronavirus.
Contemplating that the poor in the country would be grieved of his decision and would definitely be thinking of what kind of prime minister is this, who has put his citizens amidst trouble he appealed the people of the country to understand that it is a battle for life and death, and to win it was no choice left but resort to these measures to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.
Citing a saying that disease must be dealt with at it’s very initial stage, PM Modi incarcerated that the outbreak of Coronavirus is posing a challenge to all fronts of life not confining to any nation’s borders nor making any distinction of region or season.
Popping the bubble of those citizens who harbour misconceptions of which believing that by adhering to the lockdown they are helping others, PM Modi made clear that this lockdown is not for helping others but a means to protect oneself and ones families.
Urging people to strictly observe the lockdown he cautioned the countrymen to not cross the Lakshman Rekha of the lockdown.
Appealing the violators of the lockdown to understand the gravity of the matter, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged them, to comply with the lockdown else stating that it will be difficult to save ourselves from the claws of the coronavirus pandemic.
The coronavirus confirmed cases in India breachs the 1000 mark with fatalities rising to more than 30.
At a time, where Coronavirus poses a vague threat of mass extinction leaving no country or race immune to it. It is indeed wise that citizens act vigilantly and unitedly and go on survival modes to contain the spread of the pandemic
