Union Minister of Home Affairs Amit Shah interacted with the group of Doctors and representative of Indian Medical Association on Wednesday through video conferencing and appreciated their good work besides assuring them security as there were reports of doctors being abused, beaten and denied entry into residences.
Indian Medical Association was planning to stage protest against assaults on some doctors and healthcare workers engaged in Covid-19 duties. The Home Minister appealed to them to not do even a symbolic protest as the central government is with the doctors.
The Centre has formed Six Inter-Ministerial Central Teams (IMCTs) to assess the situation regarding the violations of the nationwide lockdown, social distancing norms and attack on doctors, and submits the report to Centre. `
As there have been several cases where doctors and police personnel on Covid-19 duty being attacked in places like Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bengaluru. In Chennai the heart breaking incident took place as an orthopaedic surgeon had to bury his colleague, neurosurgeon Dr Simon Hercules who died in Covid-19.
