Kedarnath Temple opens up its portals amid COVID-19 lockdown

The doors of Shri Kedarnath Temple in Uttarakhand will be Re-open on 29th April 2020, this decision was announced by Kedarnath Rawal Bhimashankar Linga, Senior TirthPurohit, Vedpathis and Acharya and other important members of Panchagai Samiti at the Panchkedar Gaddisthal Omkareshwar Temple in Ukhimath.

As the date for opening of Badrinath was deferred to May 15 on Monday because of the novel coronavirus pandemic it was being speculated that the opening of Kedarnath may also be rescheduled.

However,  Bhima Shankar Ling, the chief priest of the Himalayan temple, announced after discussing with temple committee officials, that Kedarnath temple gates will  be reopened for devotees at 6.10 am on April 29 as per the original schedule, media incharge of the temple committee Harish Gaud said.

As on winters on November, there is heavy snowfall in Kedarnath Temple and all routes are closed for 6months, the shrine closes on the week of Kartik on the day of Bhai Dooj (October-November) and reopens after Akshay Tritya (April-May) every year. During its closure the shrine is submerged in snow and worship is performed at Ukhimath.
