Even as Coronavirus infections are raging in the city of Navi Mumbai, COVID-19 impacted crimes have taken a peak.
Crime rates were significantly low during the pre-lockdown levels when strict curbs were imposed on public activities were in place throughout the city.
In a daylight robbery, two men, armed with a pistol and knife nabbed away Rs. 4.16 lakh in cash from Saraswat Bank at Sector 19, Koparkhairane in Navi Mumbai.
In an applauding move, The Koparkhairane police cracked the robbery and arrested two men, Swapnil Sapkal (18) and Bhushan Choudhary (26) both from Chembur.
The probe in the case brought to light that both the robbers were unemployed and planned the robbery after the COVID-19 induced Lockdown foiled their plans of starting a shoe shop business.
Of the Rs. 4.16 lakh stolen, police have recovered Rs. 68,000 from the accused thieves.
