Even as the Coronavirus pandemic is wreaking havoc across the world, COVID-19 Warriors are working round the clock relentlessly at the frontlines in battle against the pandemic.
Hailing the contribution of COVID-19 warriors, Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Commissioner Abhijit Bangar has directed zero deduction in salaries of healthcare workers associated with NMMC while they go on COVID-19 leave or if they are quarantined or isolated.
NMMC Chief’s move to fend COVID front liners received appreciation from health care workers and citizens across the city.
As per reports, health care workers had constant follow-ups with Former NMMC Chief Annasaheb Misal in regards to the salaries being deducted during the quarantine duration, but their appeals remained unattended.
Abhijit Bangar’s speedy redressal in resolving the respective issued is looked upon as a welcome move, worthy of praise.
While speaking to media, Abhijit Bangar reiterated that after discussion with NMMC doctors, considering the ground situation of COVID-19 in Navi Mumbai and understanding the apathy of healthcare workers, NMMC has ordered that the salaries of healthcare workers undergoing COVID-19 treatment or those in quarantine should not be deducted applying the same for all NMMC official and employees.
With healthcare workers across the country alleging non-payment of salaries and lack of proper accommodation and amenities offered to them, The Supreme Court of India blatantly ordered the government and respective administrations to go an extra mile in channelizing some extra money to address the grievances of healthcare workers stating that when ‘in war, you don’t make the soldiers unhappy’
