The Board of control for cricket in (BCCI) has awarded the title sponsorship rights of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 India to fantasy cricket league platform Dream11. IPL Chairman Brajesh Patel said on Tuesday.
He added, Dream11 game app has won the bid to the sponsor the IPL for Rs 222 crore.
According to reports, Dream11 outbid Unacademy, whose highest bid was Rs 210 crore, Tata Sons – 180 crore, Byju’s – 125 crore.
This after Chinese phone maker Vivo backed out of Indian Premier League 2020, Which is set to begin from 19 September in UAE.
Vivo and the BCCI suspended an Rs 440 crore per year deal for this season owing to the border stand-off between India and China. The IPL starts on September 19 in the UAE, moved out of India due to the COVID-19 pandemic this year.
BCCI said last week that “IPL 2020 will be played from September 19 and the final will be played on November 10, 2020. The 53-day tournament will witness 10-afternoon matches starting at 15:30 IST while the evening matches will start at 19:30 IST,”
The board had said that the turnover of the interested third party must be over ₹300 crore as per the last audited accounts.
The 13th edition of the T20 cricket tournament will be staged at three venues (Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah) in the UAE.
