Abandoned pipelines at Sector 3, Vashi have become epicenter of mosquitoes, snakes and diseases inconveniencing residents of the area. Gangasingh Rajpurohit took stock of the issue as narrated by aggrieved citizens of the area.
Ill planned and ill timed functioning of NMMC administration often ends up inconveniencing residents of planned city Navi Mumbai and creating hassles for them. This has again come to light at Sector 3, Vashi where water pipelines have been brought and left abandoned for months. There is no sign of NMMC beginning the work anytime soon even as these pipelines have been stacked in an area that congested with narrow roads. However, the worries of residents have been on the rise as these pipelines have become epicenters of mosquitoes and snakes with fears of diseases like malaria and dengue on the rise.
Frustrated residents are upset over the neglect of NMMC officials over the issue. Residents cite example of the recent deaths due to dengue and said that the same situation should not arise in Vashi. Residents fear that if NMMC does clear the area off the abandoned pipelines, then their problems could increase. In the last one year, NMMC has called for tenders worth Crores of Rupees for laying water and sewerage lines and in the absence of proper planning and due to ill timing, pipelines have been left abandoned in most sectors for months just like Sector 3, Vashi. These conditions of the pipelines are deteriorating while at the same they are inconveniencing residents and becoming a center of all kinds of unhygienic conditions and diseases.
