Among the many projects that Airoli MLA Sandeep Naik has followed up at every step of its execution in his constituency, one is the Flamingo and Biodiversity Center. This is a first-of-its-kind centre to study India’s marine ecology and its creation has increased coastal activity. The 7,000 square foot centre has been divided into two parts. The first section is dedicated to coastal biodiversity, with exhibits on mangroves and aquatic life found on the coasts of the country. The other section is for marine biodiversity that aims to showcase exhibitions on whales, dolphins and turtles among others. From audio-visual displays and touch screen media stations to educate visitors, the center has displays of marine and land ecology, coastal, marine and mangrove interpretation room and interactive display among others. On World Environment Day, the state Forest Department organized an event to enhance services at the center. The event was graced by State Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar who officially commenced “Marine Matters’ lecture series and launched a dedicated bus service and a bird app on the occasion along with giving Maharashtra its first ornamental fish hatchery unit at the center. An e-toilet and sanitary plaza funded by Rs. 40 lacs of Airoli MLA Sandeep Naik’s MLA funds was also inaugurated on the occasion. During his address on the occasion, Airoli MLA Sandeep Naik urged the Forest Department to connect the center with Gateway of India and Elephanta via boat services that can increase tourist footfall at the center, while also creating awareness about mangroves at a global level. He also pressed on the need of developing the jetty at Diva village, both for visitors and the Koli community of the village.

Speaking to NMTV, Airoli MLA Sandeep Naik explained that the distance from Gateway of India & Elephanta to Airoli’s biodiversity center is only 13 nautical miles and a boat services can bring the center on the tourist map easily through it. He said that 24 hours boats services are a must for the same.
“I HAVE APPEALED NMMC TO GIVE RS. 1 CRORE FOR THE WORK”
He appealed to Mayor J D Sutar to give Rs. 1 Crore for making the jetty at Diva village. That too at the earliest. He said that he is confident that the NMMC funds will ensure a jetty is made that will benefit the project and the Koli community of Diva gaon.

He added that from his MLA funds, he has given Rs. 40 lacs for e-toilet and sanitary plaza. He added that in the second phase, they plan a toilet for the utility of Koli community.
NMMC Mayor J D Sutar said that a jetty was for the utility of citizens of Navi Mumbai, hence they will try their best to expedite it.
