Ambedkarites march on protest against the demolition of Ambedkar Bhavan

Dalit groups in the city held a protest rally on Tuesday against the controversial demolition of Ambedkar Bhavan in Dadar. The building in Dadar was demolished last month in the middle of the night. Protesters said the Buddha Bhushan printing press, started by Dr B R Ambedkar, was also demolished by the People’s Improvement Trust (PIT).

The protest was headed by Ambedkar’s grandsons Prakash and Anandraj, student leader Kanhaiya Kumar, CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury and other politicians from the Left parties. The march started from the Jijamata Udhyan (Byculla Zoo) around noon and ended at the Azad Maidan. Over 50,000 people participated in the protest rally.
