AS SMOKING BAN DAY COMES NEARER, CITIZENS VOTE IN FAVOUR OF THE BAN

no-smoking-1-According to a survey, city residents have come in favor of the Centre’s plan to introduce smoke-free zones. When the ban on smoking at work and public places comes into effect on October 2, looks like there won’t be any protests in the city. The city’s residents, along with those in Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai, have voted in a survey to indicate that they are overwhelmingly in favour of the Centre’s plan to introduce smoke-free zones. The survey shows that in Mumbai, 96% of the respondents supported the legislation. Interestingly, the Centre has defined what a smoking corner is. For example: smoking will be prohibited in an auditorium, hospitals, amusement centres, restaurants court buildings, educational institutions, libraries, public conveyances, work places, shopping malls and cinema halls.
