Authorities’ lifts ban for the women in Saudis to ride bikes in public, Manama

It can be considered a step upward for the women in Saudi Arabia, after the authorities have given permission to them to ride bikes in public. However the permit came with some rules, which have to be strictly followed. One of the rule states that the women should ride bikes only when they are accompanied by any male relative, that’s because, in case they get hurt or if they come across serious accidents, they would get immediate assistance.  The women are not supposed to make the habit of bike riding habitual; it should only be for pleasure purpose and at such places where there aren’t any young gathering, so that they can save themselves from harassments.

However, not everybody are happy with the ban been lifted. The traffic authorities are not involving themselves in this decision, as they think the positive traffic culture and the traffic rules regulations would be affected. Along with them, the head of NGO victims have also shown their concern, as according to them riding bikes or buggies while wearing abayas (a full length, loose fitted protective garments worn by the Saudi women) can be highly dangerous and could lead to severe accidents.
