Tension for authorities and residence broke out at Squamish Terminal after an explosion occurred at a deep water port. The cause of the explosion was still not known but as soon as the fire broke out dark, smelly smoke rapidly began to fill up air. The authorities immediately send out warnings to all residents residing nearby to stay indoors at least till Vancouver Coast Health could detect if there was any toxicity level present in the smoke that kept on increasing in the area. The residents were further requested to close doors, windows and fire place dampers and to shut down their air conditioners, exhaust fans and air vents. In fact anything that could allow smoke to enter the house should be kept closed as a precautionary step.
Meanwhile Kim Stegeman reported that none of the employees were injured or affected and though each and every worker had been evacuated safely still each will go through a medical procedure to make sure that none had been affected by the smoke that had been rapidly increasing in the area. She also reported that no damage was caused even to the ship that was close to the port where the fire broke out. The main concern for the authorities at the moment would be the smoke released from fire which was coming out and spreading rapidly near all the areas. Kiran Kidwai – International Desk NMTV
