Be pro-active in party membership drive says BJP President Amit Shah

B JP president Amit Shah on Friday asked the ministers in the Maharashtra government to play a pro-active role in the expansion of the party and said any “complacency” in the party membership drive would not be tolerated.

Shah, who was in Mumbai on a day-long visit, held a four-hour-long meeting with ministers and party office-bearers to review the ongoing membership drive.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who was also present at the meeting, later said, “The seriousness of the membership drive can be ascertained from the fact that Amit Shah calls me every day for an update on the tally. The BJP president has his own network to find out the progress. Still, he calls up daily for updates on how the campaign is progressing in districts.”

Shah said every party member must enroll at least 100 new members and those who fail would not be considered for any organisational posts. “The central BJP would be closely monitoring every individual’s effort and nobody should take it lying down,” he said.

Citing his own example, the BJP president said, “Both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and myself have enrolled 100 new members.”
The BJP ministers have been asked to set aside two days for the field work that includes visiting booths as part of the membership drive.
