BEST COLLECTS RS 15 EXTRA ON BUS TICKET BUT HAS NO IDEA WHERE IT GOES

bestBEST collects 15 paise for its commuters as tax which goes for the betterment of mal-nutrition children. But sadly, BEST does not have any record as to how much money it has collected from collecting this extra money. As per the provision made under the government notification to BEST undertaking, with effect from the year 1994, BEST has been collecting 50 paise additional to its ticket fares as nutrition surcharge. With the vastness of this transport system, there are hundreds of commuters that travel through this transport and BEST undertaking fills its coffers with crores of rupees collected in the name of nutrition surcharge. There are around 3800 buses that ply through the city but commuters themselves are not aware why they pay 50 paise extra in their ticket fare. An annoyed Uttam Khobragade, the General Manager of BEST stated that they had no idea how much money was collected as the nutrition surcharge, adding that the money collected is handed over to the collector and that’s where their responsibility ends.
