BMC advises to refrain from having any links with tainted contractors

Tainted contractors blacklisted by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will now have to think twice before bidding for any projects as the standing committee has asked the administration to refrain from tabling proposals that have any links with the tainted contractors. The storm water drain department had tabled a proposal for covering of drains with acryllic glass for which Dev Engineers was roped in. The Rs 6 crore project was scrapped as committee members cited a link of the contractor with blacklisted contractor R E Infra.

Manoj Kotak, Bhartiya Janata Party leader in the civic body, questioned the administration’s unawareness about the link between the two contractors. He said, “These two contractors have worked together on several civic projects. R E Infra was blacklisted in the de-silting scam in 2015. How can the administration be unaware of this fact?”

According to a senior civic official, Dev Engineers has worked with R E Infra on major projects like desilting of the Mithi River.

While the administration was caught unaware about the connection between the contractor, the committee asked the administration to make sure if the current contractors are linked with any other tainted contractors.

Right to Information activist Zahid Shaikh, said, “The hired contractor is clearly giving a reference of a blacklisted contractor in the tendering process and it has gone unnoticed by the administration. It is clear that there is a nexus between the officials and the contractors to indirectly award contracts to blacklisted contractors.”
