BMC turns to scientific waste treatment plants to treat huge dumps

Following public uproar over waste disposal and the high court reprimanding it over lack of facilities to dump waste, BMC has now decided to install a scientific waste treatment plants at Airoli and Taloja to treat waste on a day-to-day basis.

Recently BMC got two dumping grounds from the state which will be soon used for this plan. It is also planning to extend the area of the Kanjurmarg dumping ground to increase its garbage-handling capacity.

 

Additional civic commissioner Sanjay Mukherjee said that at the two planned dumping grounds, scientific treatment of waste will be done on a regular basis. “We have got the land from the state. We plan to make both grounds (Airoli and Taloja) operational in a year” he said.
