Navi Mumbai’s most advanced railway station – the Panvel railway station is not yet safe. Despite CCTVs installed in various parts of the station, there are still many corners which are unsafe due to the absence of CCTV cameras. While there are dozens of CCTV cameras installed at the Panvel railway station, there are many spots that are still left unchecked making the station unsafe. Even the police stationed here for security accept the absence of CCTV cameras at these areas could be dangerous. In lieu of the serial bomb blasts across the country, the station had installed 20 CCTV cameras. Ten additional RPF security staff are also deployed here which is not enough for this massive station. The slum settlement right adjacent to the railway station makes the situation more difficult. The CCTV cameras are installed for the Central railway on a contract basis. Every month crores of rupees are spent on its maintenance. However, reliable sources reveal that there is huge corruption prevailing amongst the railway officers at the station and the reason why the cameras are not serving their purpose. With cameraperson Ravi Nikam, Sudhir Sharma for NMTV News.
