Centre approves Rs 3,050 crore relief package for draught farmers

With the state being affected by draught for the fourth consecutive year, the Centre approved a proposal to bring a relief package of Rs 3,050 crore for the drought-affected farmers in Maharashtra.

The proposal was approved during a high level committee meeting chaired by Union home minister Rajnath Singh.

Relief packages had seen a lot of discussion at the recently concluded state winter session in Nagpur where the opposition claimed that the aid approved by the Centre falls short of the state’s requirement. State Congress chief and former chief minister Ashok Chavan strongly criticized the Narendra Modi-led government for providing “meagre” financial assistance to tackle drought.
