CHAIRMAN CALLS OFF STANDING COMMITTEE MEETING WITHOUT CONVENING THE MEETING

Standing committee chairman Vijay Chougule adjourned the standing committee meeting last week alleging the absence of large number of officials. Sources in NCP reveal that the adjournment was more than just this reason. In his enthusiasm to prove his ability to summon full attendance of officials, the Standing committee chairman Vijay Chougule called off the meeting without convening the meeting. Even the attendance of member was not taken, alleged Shivram patil and denounced the high handedness of the majority NCP. Even as members stood up for the National Anthem, most absent members and officials walked in for the meeting. Vijay Chougule defended his stand at a press meet immediately after the standing committee meeting, stating that officials should have been present in time. In the press conference Vijay Chougule acknowledged his resentment with NCP leader Ganesh Naik for giving more consideration to recently inducted party workers in preference to old loyalist. The media has been splashing reports of a recent party meeting of the NCP party where Vijay Chougele openly stated that if anyone had problems with his political career seeing a high, he had other options open. To this Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik retorted that if anyone believed that he was bigger than the party, he should walk out then and there. To clarify his stance, Vijay Chougele convened this press conference where he said that it would have been better if Ganesh Naik would have slapped him in private rather than lashing out at him in front of other party members. This indicates that all is definitely not well between the disciple and the mentor. He however clarified that inspite of voicing his differences, he owed his position to Ganesh Naik, who is and will always be his mentor. He ruled out any option of shifting party loyalties. Sources reveal that a tender bid of Om Sai construction, in which city NCP youth president Ravindra Ithape has interests, amounting to Rs.1.88 crores for improving the water supply system in zone-4 of Nerul, was one of the important proposals on the agenda at the standing committee meeting on Wednesday, which could not be passed, as the meeting was called off. This has also led to ill-feeling among NCP Party ranks, and revealed equation of the opposition and ruling party members in the standing committee.
