Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said in the legislative assembly on Tuesday that his government had information about the nexus of the real estate industry and the underworld.
Fadnavis said: “It has come to our notice that the underworld is making huge investments in the real estate business. My government will break the backbone of such operations. Although it gets tough to get evidences, it cannot become an excuse to not crack the underworld.”
Fadnavis was earlier criticised by the opposition for the government’s failure to arrest killers of communist leader Govind Pansare in Kolhapur. Some of the opposition leaders also said that the chief minister should give up his home portfolio. Fadnavis said that real estate business is affordable housing for the common people and the underworld dons cannot control real estate.
Fadnavis denied the opposition’s charge about an increase in threat from the underworld to individuals and increase in crime against citizens. He said: “In the last three months, statistics shows a decline in crime. There will be no letdown when it comes to dealing against criminals.”
“If anyone gets threat calls from underworld dons based abroad, the name of the complainant would be withheld and action would be taken,” he said adding three accomplices of gangster Ravi Pujari have been arrested so far.
