Chief minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday set up a high-powered seven-member committee, headed by chief secretary Swadheen Kshatriya, to draft an action plan for the Pramod Mahajan skill and entrepreneurship development mission.
A month after Fadnavis had assumed office, he had set up an independent department for skill development akin to the one set up by PM Narendra Modi.
During the budget session of the state legislature, Fadnavis had declared that his government would set up a skill and entrepreneurship development mission in memory of the late Mahajan. The cabinet approved the proposal on July 12, while an official order was issued on Tuesday. A senior bureaucrat told TOI that the committee’s main task would be to mobilize funds for the mission. “It will have to take stock of the funds available with all the departments for skill development and then transfer some for the mission, only then will it be possible to draft an action plan.As for its agenda, the bureaucrat said the committee will have to draft comprehensive guidelines and a new policy for skill development.
“It is the flagship programme of the BJP’s first government in the state, and under such circumstances, it is essential that all departments play a crucial role… We expect huge funds from the district planning and development committee. We will rope in leading industrial houses too,” the bureaucrat added.
