Come Christmas, and the city gets into party mode. But this year, going by the gloomy mood of the people in the city, Christmas solutions were toned down this year. While typically, December marks the grand finale of the festival season that begins in October, the celebrations appear low-key this year, due to terrorism and the global meltdown. The same was felt in the Christmas celebrations across the city as the Christian community held a subdued Christmas celebration to pay solidarity to the many lives lost in the Mumbai terror attack. Considering the alarming regularity with which terrorists have been targeting civilians, especially before festive occasions, citizens now think twice about stepping out to crowded places. Also, the Mumbai terror attacks are still fresh in people’s minds, and hence, it has cast a pall of gloom over many. While 2008 ends on a sombre note, here’s hoping 2009 brings joy and hope to people’s lives. With cameraperson Dhanse Mehboob, Hansraj Kanaujia for NMTV News.
