Cities will be free of open defecation by 2017, says CM Fadnavis

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the cities will be free from open defecation by 2017. He expressed hope that there will be access to toilets for all and exuded confidence that Swachh Maharashtra, complete with solid waste management plants, would become a reality in 2019.

“It is our endeavour to reward local bodies which succeeded in Swachh Maharashtra campaign. The funds would be utilised for upgrading to level next in the Swachh Maharashtra Abhiyan,” said the Chief Minister.

The reward would be Rs 2 crore for A category town, Rs 1.5 crore for category B and Rs 1 crore for category K. The classification is as per population and size of towns/cities of every nagarparishad and mahapalika.
