It’s a case of one powerful blow versus hundred smaller blows. From the moment Vijay Chougule joined Shiv Sena till date, he has been in the eye of rivals from within the party and outside it. When he lost the assembly elections of 2014 to Airoli MLA Sandeep Naik, many had almost written him off.

It was his third major defeat to arch rivals Naiks. And soon after when he contested NMMC elections, critics questioned the decision of him retracting to a political level of corporator. And then came the Mayor elections debacle when Vijay Chougule backed out from the race in the last minute in the last NMMC Mayoral elections. There were speculations that he backed out the night before the Mayoral elections as the Chief Minister Devendra Fadavnis had forced him to back off.
