CM Devendra Fadnavis skips tainted Sunil Tatkare’s book launch amid strong criticism

Amid strong criticism on social media over his presence at the release of a book by former water resources minister Sunil Tatkare, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis skipped the function on Monday.

Tatkare, a suspect in the multi-crore irrigation scam, had invited Fadnavis as chief guest along with Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar for the function. Fadnavis, who was campaigning for Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Nanded for the local body election, did not reach Ravindra Natya Mandir where the function was held. A source in the BJP said that Fadnavis deliberately delayed his departure from Nanded so that he would not reach Mumbai on time.

Social activist Anjali Damania had raised question on Fadnavis’ possible presence at the function claiming that it will send a wrong signal to the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
