Contractors walking away with tender bids quoting less-amount in nexus with officials and doing poor quality should beware. Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik is super upset with them and has said so clearly in the janta darbar held this week. In his trademark blunt style, the Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik said that every time a contractor walks away with a tender quoted way below the budgeted estimate, it exposes the ignorance of NMMC Engineers.
They are always on the wrong side of the road. NMMC administration’s corrupt style of functioning continues to irk Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik. In the janta darbaar held this week, officials once again came under the firing line of Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik. This time the issue was in context to corrupt system of awarding contracts in NMMC. It not hidden from anyone that the official-corporator-contractor nexus in NMMC has been draining Crores of public taxes in the name of civic works that are sub standard and of poor quality. Of the many civic works, where this stands true, one is the road repair and maintenance work that is carried out throughout the year. The same roads and dug and re-dug, repair and re-repaired and maintained and re-maintained. Yet, most roads in the city reel under pathetic conditions. Referring to this sub standard style of working, Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik came down heavily at the NMMC administration at the janta darbaar held this week. He said that despite roads works being a constant process, it just takes first few showers to expose the sub standard and shoddy job of contractors.
It is also a known fact that it is because of the corrupt practice of commission behind every contract; known as ‘takkevari” in NMMC language; that the contractor compromises with the quality of work that they bid low to bag tenders. Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik voiced his apprehensions on this practice of contractors quoting lower bids. Lashing out at the engineers of NMMC, Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik said that every time a contractor walks away with a contract by quoting way below the budgeted estimate, it exposes that the ignorance of NMMC engineers; that these engineer do not have knowledge.
No points for guessing that when the Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik was so upset with NMMC officials, the last thing he wanted to hear was the plea of their promotions. Perhaps that is why when NMMC officer Subhash Gaikar and Ajay Sankhe approached the Minister with the request to ensure that the NCP approves a proposal for their promotion, Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik blasted both the officers. In the general body meeting to be held on 29th August, a proposal to promote NMMC officer Subhash Gaikar to the post of Assistant Municipal Commissioner and Ajay Sankhe to the post of Executive Engineer is going to be tabled. It was in regards to this proposal, that both the officials came to the janta darbar and appealed to Thane Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik to ensure that the proposal is approved. Retorting at the officers, Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik said that the citizens would think that leaders of the city are inefficient if non-performing officials are permitted.
He instructed Dy. Municipal Commissioner Jagannath Sinnarkar, to justify their decisions of promoting officials every time they make such proposals and table it for the approval of the NMMC General Body. The continuous outburst of Thane Guaurdian Minister Ganesh Naik on NMMC officials gives hope against hope that some transparency and accountability will come in NMMC that is plagued by the corrupt official-contractor-corporator nexus’ menace.
