With a view to safeguard the environment from pollution hazards, Nerul Corporator Santosh Shetty is advocating pollution free Ganeshotsav. Therefore, instead of POP Ganesh idol, a silver idol has been created here. With the aim of making this an eco-friendly Ganesh Utsav, Janseva charitable trust of Nerul has chosen to instill a 5 feet silver idol in order to save environment from pollution. The idol weighing 139 kgs has been made in Rajasthan. The Mandal is of the opinion that instead of establishing POP idols which increase water pollution, instilling such idols would definitely save our environment. He further informed that the silver idol would be preserved in SIES College’s museum so that it can be used again next year. To follow the tradition of immersion, a small 1 foot idol is placed which is made up of pure soil. The Mandal has also shown its initiative by not using loud speakers this year.
