Debt-ridden NMMT spends Rs 1 crore in toll tax annually

Debt-ridden Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport does not have easy days ahead. Suffering huge losses, the NMMT spends Rs 1 crore in toll tax annually.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport is sailing through some rough weathers. After incurring huge losses in the recruitment of new buses, the debt ridden NMMT has to face yet another burden of toll tax. The transport body spends nearly 1 crore toll tax every year on 6-7 of its routes. With Rs 60 for toll, NMMT has to cough up Rs 8, 16, 900 every month totaling upto Rs 98,02,800. The burden of toll is going to grow for NMMT as toll rates are going to increase from Rs 60 to Rs 75. Angode admitted that the toll collection has become a financial burden for NMMT, adding that there should be some relief from the state.
