Donald Trump demands ‘immediate trial’ in Senate

US President Donald Trump on Thursday has demanded an immediate trial in the Senate. Trump alleged the Democrats of not giving him a fair due process in the House of Representatives.

“So after the Democrats gave me no Due Process in the House, no lawyers, no witnesses, no nothing, they now want to tell the Senate how to run their trial,” Trump tweeted. “Actually, they have zero proof of anything, they will never even show up. They want out. I want an immediate trial!”

This tweet came apparently as a response to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s purported indecisiveness to delay the impeachment proceedings in the US Senate.

Wednesday’s vote in the House has made Donald Trump the third president in the history of the United States to be formally impeached and will face a trial in the Senate.

The House voted to impeach Donald Trump for abuse of power, on a vote of 230-197 with one voting “present,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said.

Along with charging the president for obstruction of Congress after he urged Ukrainian officials to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, his son Hunter Biden, and Burisma, a Ukrainian energy company where Hunter Biden sat on the board.

No Republicans supported the impeachment, although an ex-party member Justin Amash, from Michigan, did.

Under the U.S. constitution, the House has the sole power of impeachment while the Senate has the sole power to try all impeachments.
