DUSSEHRA – THE FESTIVAL TO CELEBRATE VICTORY OF GOOD OVER EVIL CELEBRATED IN TRADITIONAL FERVOUR

Celebrations become divine in the city with the observation of Dussehra here. The city was fully engrossed with the rituals and prayers giving the city a new look. On this occasion NMTV News too wishes its viewers a very happy dassera. Dussehra is a very important day and is celebrated throughout the nation in the Hindu month of Ashwin. Following a 10-day celebration including worship of Goddess Durga during Ramleela falls this tenth day called Vijayadasmi. The tenth day after the Navaratri is celebrated as Dussera or Vijayadashami. Besides the popular belief Goddess Durga killing demon Mahishasura, another legend associated with this day is that, on this day Sri Rama killed the demon, Ravana of Srilanka, and rescued Sita. These beliefs are the reason why the festival celebrates the victory of good over the evil. The city streets too had stories to relate about the divine celebrations. One of the city celebration included Navi Mumbai Police Commissionerate where dussera was celebrated in a traditional way.
