FAKE PASSPORT CASES DIP BY 50% IN THE CITY

fake-passport-1The number of fake passport cases registered at the Sahar police station has dipped by 50% over the past one year, thanks to as many as 15 touts being caught. According to the police, there were around 610 fake passport cases registered at the Sahar police station in 2007. The figure has come down to 326 cases in 2008. Interestingly, only 2% of these fake passports were made in Mumbai. The immigration department maintains an image of the original passport issued to a person by the passport office and the data is connected to an ultraviolet machine. During immigration check, the passport is passed through the UV machine, which can detect even the slightest alteration made in the passport. Bureau report – NMTV
