NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata has completed one year in office. After several years when a dynamic officer takes charge, it has to be a year of action in favor of Navi Mumbaikars. Rajeev Mishra sums up how from revenue generation to school vision, toilet vision and hospital vision – the civic chief has scored on all fronts. There’s no arguing that NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata was everything that Navi Mumbai needed at a time when the biggest and most significant public welfare projects were underway in the city. The functioning of the NMMC never looked as good after the tenure of former Commissioner Sunil Soni. We aren’t saying this, numbers are. Revenue in cess has gone up by 30% and property taxes by 40%. Besides this, immediate public work that was pending for years has been expedited by way of school vision, toilet vision and hospital vision. 550 news officials have joined the NMMC team. And this isn’t it. The Commissioner plans to do away with the other burning civic issues in another year’s time. Besides these the major significant projects too will be successfully completed in the coming few months. Commissioner Nahata was not hesitant in accepting that while there have been successes, there have been failures too. He sighted encroachment issue and 538 buildings without OCs has the next biggest challenge the administration faces. NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata is the first Commissioner to personally visit the city nodes to set the administration priorities right on conducting public work. And while he faces criticism from most corporators in NMMC, he hasn’t bowed down to pressure. Not surprisingly this is why he is winning with Navi Mumbaikars all the way.
