In a major relief for tax paying resident citizens in Navi Mumbai, there is going to be no hike in water or property tax for the next 5 years. The announcement has been made as a pre-NMMC elections gift to citizens by Airoli’s BJP MLA Ganesh Naik. Since its inception, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that NMMC has been Ganesh Naik ruled. Because, it didn’t matter which political party he was in, Ganesh Naik’s corporators always won the elections. With his defection from NCP to BJP, NMMC has become BJP ruled and the upcoming elections are going to be Ganesh Naik’s first as leader of BJP in municipal polls. Hence, the announcement gains more significance. According to the details given to media, the decision will make the total number of years with no property or water tax hike to 25 years. 20 years ago, Ganesh Naik had made his first promise of no taxes hike for residents. The promise will be kept officially in March 2020. And the announcement of no taxes hike for next 5 years, makes it 25 years of no water or property tax hike in Navi Mumbai.

Speaking in context to his decision, Airoli BJP MLA Ganesh Naik said that in another 2 months, he will fulfil his first promise of 20 years and now as the leader of the ruling party of NMMC, he has decided to add another 5 years until 2025 to it.
“THERE WILL BE NO FINANCIAL BURDEN ON NMMC TREASURY” ASSURES GANESH NAIK
Ruling out any criticism for this populist announcement, Ganesh Naik said that there would be no financial strains or impact on NMMC treasury because of this decision. He pointed out that NMMC has top credit rating and even salaries of employees is given from the Rs 2500 Crores deposit of NMMC, that in itself is a first record.
