Drama and shockers from the political grounds in Navi Mumbai continued on day 2 of BJP’s candidate list announcement. As Manda Mhatre was chosen to fight from Belapur constituency again and Sandeep Naik’s name was announced for Airoli constituency, the Naik camp of corporators, supporters and well-wishers went into utter silence and shock as many believed that Ganesh Naik would be the BJP candidate from Belapur constituency.

The Naiks became unreachable all day while their corporators, behind the scenes expressed shock stating they were confident of Ganesh Naik’s candidature from Belapur and had no clue how things changed overnight in Delhi. The suspense ended early today as Sandeep Naik, in a meeting of corporators at Mayor Bungalow, urged Ganesh Naik to contest from Airoli constituency instead of him. The appeal was backed by all corporators and party workers.

Within an hour of the meeting, BJP’s Organizing Secretary Goa and Konkan Satish Dhond, arrived in NMSA and officially handed over the party’s AB form to Ganesh Naik to fight the Maharashtra Assembly polls as the BJP Shiv Sena alliance candidate from 150 Airoli constituency in the presence of Navi Mumbai BJP President Ramchandra Gharat, former MP Sanjeev Naik and former MLA Sandeep Naik. Speaking to the media, Sanjeev Naik said that all party workers were of the opinion that for the development of Navi Mumbai, it was imperative that Ganesh Naik should contest the assembly polls.

On the other hand, Ramchandra Gharat welcomed the decision of Ganesh Naik to fight as their candidate from Airoli.

The decision of Sandeep Naik to withdraw his candidature at a crucial point when an inevitable hat trick was in the offing for him is being seen as a huge sacrifice rarely seen in politics.
