Chaliha celebrations were organized at the Nerul and Vashi Jhulelal temples. Chaliho or Chaliha is one of the longest and most awaited festivals of the Indian Hindu Sindhi community. The forty-day-long festival is observed every year in the month of July and August wherein they pray to God Jhulelal or Dariyalal. The event marks the tradition of fasting for forty days. They believe that a special jyoti (flame), which has been protecting the Sindhi culture and its people, was carried from the Puj Chaliasaheb Mandir Peergoath in Sindh, Pakistan to Chaliha Sahib Puj Mandir in Ulhasnagar during the partition and hence they celebrate the same. Former Minister Ganesh Naik joined celebrations here at Nerul.
In his address, he said that said when money, muscle and chair power are used for the poor then it’s respected by all.
He said that they have always stood by the Sindhi community as he showered praises on community. The next day Ganesh Naik joined the celebrations at Vashi where he was given a traditional welcome.
Speaking to NMTV, he said that he gets peace and happiness after attending this event each year. He again appreciated the work done by the community.
