While political experts believed that an absent member could decide who could be the next SCC, there was an entire drama in store. The outcome not surprisingly spells all victory atleast till now for the Ganesh Naik led NCP party in NMMC. NMMC General Body approves nomination of Sandeep Naik, M K Madhvi, Devidas Hande Patil, Ashok Bhau Patil, Anant Sutar, S Karne, Avinash Lad and Sangeeta Sutar as standing committee members. Opposition threatens to seek court stay on the allegedly illegal nomination. As per a recent ordinance SC members were to be nominated by respective leaders of the respective party in the house in proportion to their strength. However, the same rule allows approval of nominations by majority vote if there is any dispute in the matter. The dispute began when Sangeeta Sutar created a mayhem stating that she had the copy of a letter from MPCC President Prabha Rao to be nominated as member to SC with Avinash Lad, then why was Madhavi Shinde’s name added at the last minute. On the other hand Sena party whip Vithal More pointed out that Anant Sutar and the other 8 rebel Sainiks were technically still in Sena. Based on these disputes presiding Mayor Bharat Nakhate exercised his powers and accordingly read out the names of the members who were nominated by majority vote. Even as the opposition faction objected to this and have threatened to go to court to get a stay on this illegal nomination. If this happens then the last SC led by CVJ may continue till the court gives a verdict. NMMC Secretary Chandrakant Deokar agrees with the opposition that the presiding Mayor had violated rules. For now Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik ably supported by SN have emerged as the political powerhouse that cannot be challenged.
