Navi Mumbai : By end of this month, Ganesh Naik will form an independent party. Ganesh Naik is leaving NCP. Even before Ganesh Naik could make an official annoucement of it, the NCP has come out first. In a single page print out given to reporters, the party subtly announced the replacement of Ganesh Naik by Jitendra Awhad as the party leader of NCP for Thane district and Palghar, while also giving him the responsibility of NCP in the upcoming NMMC elections 2015. This officially confirms Ganesh Naik’s exit from NCP.

So where next for the Naiks? There is no denying that Ganesh Naik is the updisputed leader of Navi Mumbai with a mass following in the city. There is no other leader of Navi Mumbai with extraordinary organizational skills who can play galli politics like Ganesh Naik. He fell in Vidhan Sabha polls against BJP’s Manda Mhatre. This defeat can be attibuted to his over confidence and failure of the Naik think-tank but it definitely does not mean Ganesh Naik’s political game is over.

The chances of Ganesh Naik joining Congress is out of question. The equation with BJP and Shiv Sena isnt working out. Political observers see two reasons for this. One that Ganesh Naik’s caliber is of a leader having worked second only to late Balasaheb Thackeray in Shiv Sena and Sharad Pawar in NCP. Working under junior ranks Uddhav Thackeray or Aditya Thackeray and Devendra Fadavnis seems less probable. The second is that Ganesh Naik would want rehabilitation of his sons and nephew. But accomodating all of them is an impossible task for any party. Moreover, Ganesh Naik’s style of politics has been to take absolute control of political affairs in Navi Mumbai, which will not be accepted to any party in this era of politics.

So as sources inform, to keep his flock of corporators together, to keep alive the brand of the Naiks and to continue to control Navi Mumbai, Ganesh Naik will form an independent party. Shortly after quitting Shiv Sena, Ganesh Naik had in fact floated an independent party Shiv Shakti. He could revive the party or think of forming another. Political anyalysts feel it will be advantage Ganesh Naik if he forms an independent party. He can win 40 to 45 seats in the NMMC Elections 2015 and can play the role of kingmaker.
