The Maharashtra cabinet, on March 8 approved a proposal to exempt residential properties up to 500 sq ft, within the Mumbai municipal area limits, from property tax. The decision was taken at the cabinet meeting held in Mumbai. Soon after, a proposal was put forward by the Shiv Sena ruled BMC to implement the same in Mumbai. And the state also invited proposals from other municipal corporations that could afford such a waiver. In Navi Mumbai, NCP leader Ganesh Naik has asked NCP led by Mayor J D Sutar in NMMC to send a proposal to the state for approval. Speaking about the same, Airoli MLA Sandeep Naik informed the media following the exemption in Mumbai; the state has asked municipal corporations that can follow suit to send proposals to them.
He added that Ganesh Naik made a promise 20 years ago, not to increase taxes in Navi Mumbai and they have kept the promise. Hence, when they got this opportunity, Ganesh Naik asked NCP in NMMC to immediately submit the proposal.
He asserted that Ganesh Naik has always planned Navi Mumbai’s progress without burdening citizens with extra or heavy taxes and they will continue to strive to bring the best of civic amenities with least tax burden.
