Gangster Vikas Dubey, who was arrested in connection with the murder of eight policemen in Kanpur, was killed in a police encounter on Friday morning. According to the sources, Vikas Dubey has attemted to flee after the vehicle in which he was present, overturned.
Vikas was arrested on Thursday by Madhya Pradesh police from Mahakal temple. Later, he was handed over to UP STF. The UP STF brought him to Kanpur but one of the vehicles of UP police met with an accident. Vikas Dubey is the main accused of the Kanpur shootout case where eight policemen had lost their lives. The UP government had announced a bounty of Rs 5 lakhs on his head.
The Kanpur police said in a statement “The car overturned and policemen and the accused were injured. Then Vikas Dubey grabbed a gun from an injured policeman and ran. The police team caught up and surrounded him and tried to get him to surrender, but he refused and started firing. The police had to fire back in self-defence,”
ADG Kanpur range, J N Singh said, “Dubey was injured in the encounter and he was declared dead in the hospital.”
The officer confirmed that Dubey “sustained injuries” but did not confirm to what extent, saying it would come in the postmortem report.
