Since last 15 days, there has been rise in the prices of vegetables. The wholesalers attribute delay in rainfall as the main cause of rise in price. There has been 15 to 50% rise of prices of vegetables. Number of trucks that enter market with vegetables was 525 last week whereas this week it was 470. The Director for APMC vegetable market, Shankar Pingle informed us that the price automatically increase when the number of trucks bringing vegetables reduce. This year delayed monsoon was the primary reason for price hike. He further informed that many vegetables are also transported to other states from Maharashtra, which is also one of the reasons of less vegetables being available in the market. With the price hike due to delayed monsoon and the Shravan month, the rise of prices in vegetables would keep on haunting the citizens.
