Irom Chanu Sharmila opposes decision of making Hindi must in DU

Activist Irom Chanu Sharmila on Friday came out in support for non-Hindi speaking students against Delhi University‘s recent decision to make the language a compulsory paper at the undergraduate level.

 The activist called it a `serious discrimination.’ “To compel students to learn Hindi and to appear for an examination that will determine their overall academic result and future prospects amounts to serious discrimination,” Sharmila said.

DU had earlier stated that it would become compulsory for every student who has not studied Hindi till Class VIII to pass a Compulsory Test in Hindi to get his her undergraduate degree.
