bhise-scamThe H B Bhise case has become the biggest scam of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation where in an unholy nexus of corporators-contractor-official have indulged in criminal and fraudulent activities to drain public Crores of public taxes. According to media reports, the NMMC has evidence that Bhise was the front man of NCP Corporator M K Madhvi in the scam. The investigations are also raising question marks on the alleged involvement of senior-most NMMC officials in the scam, particularly former Dy. Municipal Commissioner – Encroachment Amrish Patnigire. But its been nearly 1.5 months, and the police investigations are allegedly going so slow that it compels one to questions whether a CBI enquiry is the only option to book the mastermind behind the Bhise scam. Powers-misused, politics of pressure, fraud, forgery, threats – the H B Bhise case has all elements of a criminal and unholy scam that has put NMMC to shame in the state. This is how the conspirators planned the scam -the contractor H B Bhise won the encroachment tender in alleged nexus of NCP Corporator M K Madhvi. His job was to provide JCB, dumpers and other equipments to NMMC for carrying out encroachment drives. With obvious support of NMMC officials, bills running into Crores were paid to the contractor on forged chalans. The scam was unearthed when NMMC Opposition Leader Ramakant Mhatre filed a complaint in the State Urban Development Dept and the department ordered Commissioner Vijay Nahata to enquire the matter. Soon after the first FIR against the scam was filed at CBD Police Station and the rest as they say is history. Since the FIR has been filed, the scam has become a subject of heated debate and discussions in the meetings held at NMMC. The monthly general body meeting saw Ramakant Mhatre raising the issue in a calling attention motion.
