And towers on Palm Beach are not the only examples of the bias approach of NMMC towards the rich and mighty. Another glaring example is the Four Points and Inorbit Mall where both CIDCO and NMMC are admitting that there has been massive encroachment of public space yet the authorities have left it on the hotel and mall itself to raze the encroachment. We caught up with RTI activist Sandeep Thakur on this disappointment turn of events.
Last week on NMTV exclusive weekend expose, we brought to you how Four Points by Sheraton and Inorbit Mall have encroached on public space and despite both CIDCO and NMMC accepting that there has been massive encroachment by them, no action is being taken by either of the two government.
• FOURS POINTS BY SHERATON ENCROACHES ON PUBLIC SPACE
Four Points by Sheraton stands on a plot allotted to the influential builder group R K Raheja. The hotel does not have any right to create the entry and exit on this road or do the landscaping, yet they have encroached the public road and open space and are using it as if they own them.
• INORBIT MALL ENCROACHES ON PUBLIC SPACE
The neighboring Inorbit Mall on the other hand has created a notorious record of sorts in terms of encroachments. The entry to the mall, the entry to the parking lot of the mall and the exit of the parking lot to the mall are all illegal. They have all been constructed on open space and public roads. Last weekend, CIDCO officials visited the site and confirmed that there Four Points and Inorbit Mall have encroached on public space but instead of taking action, once again all NMMC is doing is looking for excuses for not razing the encroachment at Inorbit Mall and Four Points. Sandeep Thakur says that because there is so much corruption in CIDCO and NMMC that Four Points and Inorbit have encroached public space.
Disappointed by NMMC’s bias approach, Sandeep Thakur says that NMMC says that the hotel will demolish the encroachment on its own but this is just a gimmick to give Four Points time to come up with some reason to raze down the illegal entry and exit fencing. Endorsing the fact that rich and mighty get away with violations, Sandeep Thakur says that these people have connections to the top. It’s really unfortunate that a social activist has to run from pillar to post to get the job done that is the moral responsibility and duty of authorities.
In what seems to be a clear attempt to protect the interest of Four Points Hotel and Inorbit Mall that have encroached public space, both CIDCO and NMMC are only tossing responsibility and giving time to the hotel and mall to come up with some excuse to become private owners of the public space. There assurances of taking action against them is an eyewash. Truth is NMMC and CIDCO are again fooling the public to benefit the rich and mighty. With bureau inputs, Sana Warsia for NMTV News.
