The 14th edition of Navi Mumbai Shikshan Sankul’s Sarav Pariksha was inaugurated in a ceremony yesterday. An initiative of its President Sandeep Naik, the Sarav Pariksha, according to teachers and academicians in Navi Mumbai, has been a one-of-its-kind initiative in the state of Maharashtra. Airoli MLA Ganesh Naik graced the official inaugural ceremony of Sarav Pariksha in a school at Airoli.
WHAT IS SARAV PARIKSHA?
Sarav Pariksha are mock board examinations held for students who appear for SSC board each year. These mock examinations are held free of cost for students across English, Hindi and Marathi schools in Navi Mumbai.
THE TIMING AND THE AIM
The Sarav Pariksha have been timed each year to be held in January, nearly 45 days before the actual SSC board. The aim of the exercise is simple. When board examination students enter the examination center for the first time, the experience is often that of fear – new environment, new system and the pressure that sets in right from the beginning of the academic year meets its melting point at the examination hall. It is to give students this experience ahead of the real board that the Sarav Pariksha is organized each year. Students who have appeared for the examinations have shared how the mock boards played a crucial role in overcoming the phycological fear of board exams. While the examinations were held only for Marathi medium schools initially, over the years, the Hindi and English medium schools have been included in the process on demands of both parents and students.
25 EXAMINATION CENTERS FOR OVER 9000 STUDENTS
This year over 9000 students have registered for the mock exams. They are appearing for the examinations across 25 centers in Navi Mumbai. In his address during the inaugural ceremony, the organizer Sandeep Naik informed, “In the last 14 years, more than 1.35 lac students have appeared for mock boards.”
ORGANIZING TEAM FOCUSSES ON REVISED SYLLABUS AND ACCURACY OF QUESTIONS
The challenge of organizing the mock boards are multi-faceted. Hence the priority for the organizing team has been to ensure that any revision or changes in syllabus is taken into account while accuracy and process is at par with the actual boards itself. Organizer Sandeep Naik said that, “We do a lot of brain storming each year before launching the initiative to ensure that Sarav Pariksha plays its role in Navi Mumbai’s culture of excellence in education.”
TOPPERS TO GET APP AND TAB
In order to motivate students, the top three toppers of Sarav Pariksha will be given tablet computers, trophies and certificates. They also get access to iScore App that gives students model questions papers with answers to practice. Evidently, most students who appear for these examinations are those who cannot afford to go for private coaching classes or private mock board exams that are conducted at a commercial scale.
“MY VISION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY TRANSLATED” SAYS AIROLI MLA GANESH NAIK
Airoli MLA Ganesh Naik, in a conversation with NMTV said that, “When I had first thought of Sarav Pariksha, my vision was to target the fear in students of board examinations and help them overcome the same. As I visited the mock board examination centers today and interacted with students, I can now say with confidence that my vision has successfully been translated by Sandeep Naik and his team.”
“ORGANIZING SARAV PARIKSHA FOR 14 YEARS IS A FEAT ACHIEVED BY SANDEEP NAIK” : GANESH NAIK
In his address on the occasion, Airoli MLA Ganesh Naik said that, “Many people have tried to organize mock boards for SSC students but with little success as it requires complete commitment year after year. The fact that Sandeep Naik has been organizing this for 14 years, is definitely nothing less than a feat.”
“IT’S A CONFIDENCE BUILDING EXERCISE FOR STUDENTS APPEARING FOR SSC BOARD EXAMINATIONS” SAYS SANDEEP NAIK
Speaking to NMTV, Sandeep Naik said that “10th is the first significant step in the educational graph, hence it comes with undue pressure. We want to give students a platform of overcoming this fear, anxiety and stress through Sarav Pariksha. Hence we have modelled these mock board on the same lines of the actual SSC board – right from the examination halls, to setting the question papers and even evaluation.”
And how does the Navi Mumbai Shikshan Sankul evaluate its own performance? “When students come to us asking when the results will be out or when students and parents from Mumbai and Thane enquire if we will begin Sarav Pariksha in their cities as well, it gives us a sense of satisfaction that we are going the right way,” says Sandeep Naik.
