IT’S DOOM FOR NAVI MUMBAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT – CHIEF MINISTER ASHOK CHAVAN’S DOUBTFUL STATEMENT HINTS THAT STATE MIGHT NOT GET THE CENTER’S CLEARANCE

air-port-doubtfulDuring his visit to Navi Mumbai, Chief Minister Ashok Chavan’s reply to the Navi Mumbai Intl Airport getting the center’s clearance was marked with uncertainties. He was replying to the question asked by NMTV Managing Editor Zeba Warsia. It may be recalled that the Navi Mumbai Intl Airport faced a major setback yet once again when the Maharashtra State government received a letter from the Union Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh asking the state to look for another site for the airport as any development on the present site can spell doom for environment. With elections round the corner, the letter from the center has left the state sweating for cover. During his recent visit to Navi Mumbai, NMTV Managing Editor Zeba Warsia asked the Chief Minister that despite him declaring twice that the state had the environment clearance, what went wrong. We also asked the Chief Minister whether he was confident of getting a clearance to which the CM gave a rather uncertain answer. It is a known fact that the builder’s lobby is a major contributor to election funds and in the name of Airport and SEZs in Navi Mumbai, the builder’s lobby has been fooling buyers and investors to invest in Navi Mumbai market for years. The Chief Minister’s public announcements of getting the clearance close to elections was with the same aim of ensuring that the economic-slowdown hit property markets do not crash. But now the truth of ground realities of the Navi Mumbai Intl’ Airport has been exposed by the Union Environment Ministry. With cameraperson Abhay Prasad, Zeba Warsia for NMTV News.
