If the coverage of the visit of Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar is anything to go by, then there are more talks of her looks than “meaningful” peace talks between India and Pakistan.
The entire nation is swooning over the beautiful, petite and classy Hina Rabbani Khar. The media has been reporting about Khar’s aristocratic looks, her style, her attire, her accessories while a breakthrough in peace talks between the countries remained ineffective on Wednesday.
An AFP article summing up Khar’s visited stated, “In Pakistan, headscarf-wearing Khar has drawn inevitable comparisons to Benazir Bhutto, the charismatic female prime minister who was assassinated when trying to regain power in 2007. Like Bhutto, she (Hina Rabbani Khar) comes from one of Pakistan’s leading political and landowning families and her clan has extensive farms in Punjab, the country’s richest and most populous province.”
Hina Rabbani Khar is in India to deliberate on issues like relaxing trade and travel restrictions across a ceasefire line dividing disputed Kashmir. The peace talks aim to strengthen the ties between the two countries but there is little hope that anything concrete will come out of it. Even talks on sensitive issues of Kashmir or fighting terrorism and militancy might end up in major disappointments, say experts.
Some say that “forget peace, these talks cannot even guarantee that India and Pakistan will not go for war!”
